My name is Rose-mary Bizuru and I am a third-year Marketing major at Howard University. Being born and raised in Houston, Texas, I have been exposed to a variety of different cultures, backgrounds, styles, and more which has shaped me into who I am today and has also contributed to my interests in travel and fashion. I enjoy picking up new skills, engaging in creative outlets and exploring all kinds of art forms. As I enter my professional career, I long to be in an environment that stimulates my growth and allows me to explore endless possibilities.
How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?
Attending an HBCU has been one of the greatest decisions that I have made, academically and professionally. Being surrounded by talented and driven individuals, who originate from different backgrounds, who also look like me, is the most inspiring aspect of my college experience. Growing up, I found myself missing out on opportunities due to my shy and timid nature, but Howard has taught me to take risks and advocate for myself. Although I have so much room for growth, Howard University has taught me a great deal about myself and my worth as a young black woman navigating this thing called life.
How are you looking to contribute to the professional world upon graduation?
After graduation, my ultimate goal is to live a happy and fulfilling life, doing the things I love with the people who surround me. Professionally, I aspire to use my skills to contribute to the creative spaces within the fashion industry. Ultimately, I plan to learn as much as possible and remain eager to gain knowledge as I grow into the professional I am destined to be.
What is your dream job?
Currently, my dream job is to be a Marketing Director for a fashion/beauty company or a Fashion Merchandiser. As someone whose interests and goals are ever-changing, I am at a point in my life where I am still figuring out who I am and what my interests are. I want to be in a profession that allows me to travel and engage in new experiences, all while learning more about the fashion industry and its contribution to society as a whole.
How do you express your personal sense of style through fashion?
Fashion is a vast industry where possibilities are truly endless and unique. Personally, I believe I am still navigating who I am and how I like to express myself through my fashion sense. I appreciate simplicity and a 'clean,' clear-cut look. Building outfits around basic pieces and using accessories or staple items to elevate the look is my style
What role will you play in the future of fashion?
With the future of fashion forever ahead, I hope to contribute in any way I can. Whether pioneering campaigns, creating a brand and establishing a name in the fashion world, or encouraging future generations to dream big and take up space. Regardless of the avenue, my ultimate goal is to create a positive impact on the fashion industry, generating happiness and confidence in the lives of others along the way.
