My birth name is Phoenix Smith. My brand name is Phoenixx Kaylynn. I am Phoenixx Kaylynn, a creative entrepreneur and cultural curator. I specialize in curating third spaces and photo creative direction, including marketing, community engagement, and creative production. Being a producer is about providing a platform for others to deliver their plan, and every now and then developing my own art to add to the latest and oldest conversations of our art community. I create to continue hope, love, and pride.
How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?
From attending Howard University, I have learned how to seek out the best opportunities and seize the moment. Being surrounded by extreme excellence, I realized that excellence isn’t special but character, individuality, awareness and consistency is really where the magic is held.
How are you looking to contribute to the professional world upon graduation?
I look forward to diversifying the avenues of impact in fashion, community engagement and entertainment. My goal is to liberate and amplify BIPOC and queer creations through my own brand and in assistance to brands of my peers and legends. I plan to execute through marketing and entertainment strategies: creative direction, photo direction, and event curation.
What is your dream job?
I dream of curating fashion shows for House of Aama, Fenty, and Wales Bonner.
How do you express your personal sense of style through fashion?
I dress how I feel. My outfits and hair are meant to tell people my story of the day before I open my mouth to tell them. My style is well-rounded, expressive and unconventional.
What role will you play in the future of fashion?
I will be the change agent of fashion. I want to show how limitless fashion is. I think fashion shows should lose their stiffness, more expression, more common people, more inclusion of styles, walks, coverage, target audience. My fashion shows will be epic and never seen before phenomenons.
