I am Kandis Fletcher a senior Psychology major Sociology minor from Chicago, Illinois. I am passionate about community. One thing I love about myself is my adventurous nature and ability to try new things and learn from them. I enjoy finding ways to use my individual talents and passions to help others. A fun fact about me is that I got first place for 3 consecutive years in speech competitions in middle school.
How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?
Attending an HBCU has pushed me to be tenacious and also be open to learning opportunities outside of the classroom. At my HBCU I've had to step out of my comfort zone to achieve things and learn to advocate for myself and others. I've also learned the importance of using my education to better my community. Because of this I've developed skills that will translate into the workplace and throughout my life.
How are you looking to contribute to the professional world upon graduation?
I will earn my Ph.D in Clinical Psychology and open a private practice. I will eventually establish a community health center and work to make mental health resources more accessible.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is having my own clinical psychology practice.
How do you express your personal sense of style through fashion?
I'm big on making sure I'm comfortable in what I'm wearing whether that's physically or just means wearing things that I feel comfortable and confident in. My style is pretty simple but I love a good statement piece whether that is a shirt or a cool pair of pants. I love to accessorize a simple outfit; the perfect jewelry can bring an outfit together.
What role will you play in the future of fashion?
Although my career aspirations are not directly related to fashion, through fashion I am able to look and feel my best which helps me feel ready to take on the day. When I am exuding confidence I encourage those around me to also be confident and embrace their authentic selves.
